Under One Banner: Nepal Day Parade 2025 Fills Manhattan with Culture, Unity, and Pride
New York City, May 18, 2025 —
Midtown Manhattan came alive in a sea of crimson, blue, and white as the Nepal Day Parade 2025 marched proudly from 38th Street to 23rd Street and Madison Avenue, bringing the vibrant spirit of the Himalayas to the heart of New York City. A serene statue of Lord Buddha led the procession an emblem of peace at the forefront of a jubilant celebration of culture, unity, and shared identity.
Organized by the NRNA NCC-USA New York Chapter, with support from the Consulate General of Nepal in New York and in collaboration with various local organizations, this year’s parade drew thousands of participants and spectators. Nepalis from across the tri-state area and beyond gathered in joyous solidarity, many dressed in traditional attire and waving both Nepali and American flags a powerful symbol of the dual heritage they proudly represent.
At the helm of this grand event were Chhiring Sherpa (President), Krishna Acharya (Finance Coordinator), Manita Gurung (Convenor), and their entire team, whose dedicated leadership helped transform the parade into one of the most memorable celebrations of the Nepali Community living in the United States in recent years.
Throughout the parade, traditional Nepali dances showcased the nation’s vibrant cultural tapestry, bringing the streets to life with movement and music. Sherpa performers in vivid attire twirled gracefully through the crowd, while the rhythmic flow of Gurung Ghatu, the lively pulse of Tamang Selo, and the spirited Deuda reverberated between the towering skyscrapers. Cymbals clashed in harmony with the beat of the madal, creating a powerful soundscape. Songs filled the air—folk melodies from the hills, patriotic hymns, and timeless tunes that stirred the hearts of everyone present.
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and New York City Mayor Eric Adams stood among the honored guests, recognizing the cultural contributions and community spirit of Nepali Americans. Both leaders praised the unity, resilience, and positive impact of the Nepali diaspora within New York and beyond.
“This is more than a celebration,” said Phuri Sharps, a participant proudly waving a Nepali flag. “It’s a moment to honor who we are—diverse in faith, background, and region—but united by a common heritage. Today, we walk under one Nepali banner, and it fills my heart with pride.”
As sunlight filtered through the Manhattan skyline and shimmered across the fluttering flags, it became clear: the Nepal Day Parade 2025 was not just a march—it was a living expression of home, harmony, and heritage.
First launched in 2016, the Nepal Day Parade has become a cherished annual tradition for the Nepali community living in the United States. This year marked the seventh official parade—an ever-growing testament to unity, cultural pride, and the enduring contributions of Nepalis in the United States.
