Dudjom Dharma House, NYC to Host Three-Day Throma Bhumtsok During Saka Dawa, Led by H.H. Dungse Namgay Dawa Rinpoche

Elmhurst, New York: In celebration of Saka Dawa, the most sacred month in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and Parinirvana of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni, Dudjom Dharma House, NYC Inc. will organize a special three-day Throma Bhumtsok ( a Ganachakra feast offering practice of the fierce wisdom dakini Throma Nagmo (Krodikali).

The practice will be led by His Holiness Dungse Namgay Dawa Rinpoche, and held from June 20 to 22, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, at Rigzin Chokhorling (Sherpa Gompa), 41-01 75th Street, Elmhurst, NY 11373.

What is Throma Bhumtsok?

Throma Bhumtsok is a large-scale tantric Ganachakra offering in the Dudjom Tersar tradition of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. The central deity of this practice is Throma Nagmo, a wrathful, feminine embodiment of wisdom and the Great Mother, known in Sanskrit as Krodikali.

The term “Throma” means “cutting through,” referring to the cutting of ego and dualistic grasping, and “Bhumtsok” denotes a 100,000-fold gathering or offering ritual. During a Bhumtsok, sacred substances are offered symbolically to the wisdom deities, lineage masters, protectors, and sentient beings. The ritual includes visualization, mantra recitation, song (chö), and tsok offerings. It is considered especially effective for purifying obstacles, accumulating merit and wisdom, and generating blessings for both the living and the deceased.

This powerful practice is traditionally performed during auspicious days such as Saka Dawa, when the karmic effects of positive or negative actions are believed to be multiplied 100 million times.

About His Holiness Dungse Namgay Dawa Rinpoche

His Holiness Dungse Namgay Dawa Rinpoche is the son of His Holiness Kyabje Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche and the grandson of His Holiness Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdral Yeshe Dorje, the Supreme Head of the Nyingma school and the founder of the Dudjom Tersar lineage. He is one of the foremost heirs to the Dudjom Tersar transmission and lineage blessings, recognized for his spiritual maturity and deep commitment to preserving and propagating the pure Vajrayana teachings.

Rinpoche has received extensive teachings, empowerments, and transmissions from his father and other eminent masters and has been engaging in teaching and practice activities internationally. His presence in this Throma Bhumtsok ensures the authenticity and power of the ritual.
