Devotees Flock to Bauddha on 2569th Buddha Jayanti to View Sacred Relics
Kathmandu, May 12 — On the auspicious occasion of the 2569th Buddha Jayanti, thousands of devotees gathered from early Monday morning at the Guru Lhakhang Monastery in Bauddha to pay homage and catch a rare glimpse of the sacred relics of Lord Gautam Buddha.
Adding to the spiritual significance of the day, rare relics of Kashyap Buddha and the Swayambhu Mahachaitya have also been put on public display, drawing pilgrims, monks, and tourists alike.
The viewing has been arranged jointly by the Shree Bauddhanath Area Development Committee and Melamchi Ghyang Guthi, allowing worshippers to offer prayers and circumambulate the sacred site in reverence.
In addition to the relic display, a procession featuring an ancient idol of Lord Buddha has also been organized, providing a unique spiritual and cultural experience for attendees.
Buddha Jayanti, also known as Baisakh Shukla Purnima, marks the birth, enlightenment, and mahaparinirvana (passing) of Lord Buddha. It is celebrated across Nepal and globally, with major commemorations in sacred locations such as Lumbini, Kapilvastu, Bauddha, and Swayambhu.
This year’s celebrations emphasize peace, compassion, and spiritual reflection, with many participants also engaging in prayer, meditation, and almsgiving throughout the day.
