Samsung’s ‘Galaxy Empowered’ Brings the Future of Education to Remote Bhutanese Classroom
Gurugram, India — May 2025
In a heartwarming stride towards bridging the digital divide, Samsung, India’s largest consumer electronics brand, has welcomed passionate educators from the remote hills and valleys of Bhutan into its transformative education initiative, ‘Galaxy Empowered.’ What began as a visionary programme in India is now blossoming into a global movement, bringing the power of technology to classrooms once untouched by it.
Launched in December 2024, Galaxy Empowered is a one-of-a-kind, community-led initiative that equips teachers, principals, and education leaders with the tools, training, and confidence to reimagine teaching for the 21st century. With recurring in-person and online sessions, the programme is creating ripples of change far beyond city schools — reaching educators in underserved and remote regions of South Asia.
This month, Samsung organized a special Immersion Programme for Bhutanese educators at its Executive Business Centre (EBC) in Gurugram. For many of these teachers, it was their first encounter with cutting-edge educational technology — from interactive whiteboards and Galaxy Tablets to Galaxy AI applications and advanced classroom displays.
“I had never used an interactive whiteboard before. Seeing it in action gave me so many ideas for making lessons more engaging for my students,” said Khandu, a teacher at Wangdue Primary School.
The delegation included teachers from schools such as Khandothang Primary School (Samtse), Pelrithang Higher Secondary School (Gelephu, Sarpang), Lobesa Lower Secondary School (Punakha Dzongkhag), Yoechen Central School (Pema Gatshel), and Phuentsholing Primary School, among others.
“The technology we saw today showed how classrooms can become more exciting and student-friendly,” said Ghana Shyam Dhungana, Academic Head at Pelrithang Higher Secondary School. “I am thinking about how we can try small changes in our own schools.”
This expansion into Bhutan is being conducted in collaboration with the Teacher and Educational Leadership Division (TELD) under the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Bhutan, ensuring the programme aligns with local educational needs and contexts.
At its core, Galaxy Empowered is about more than gadgets. It’s about nurturing curiosity, fostering creativity, and building connection — values that transcend borders.
“At Samsung, we understand that empowering a teacher is about inspiring a transformation,” said a Samsung India spokesperson. “We are proud to see this programme expand its reach beyond India, evolving into a global platform for learning and collaboration.”
Importantly, the Galaxy Empowered programme is offered completely free of cost to participating schools and teachers. It includes self-paced courses, interactive online training, and in-person boot camps — ensuring that even educators in the most remote locations have access to world-class learning opportunities.
“This visit reminded me that technology is not only for big cities,” said Pema Dorji, Officiating Principal at Jigmeling Primary School (Tang, Bumthang). “With the right support, even remote schools can benefit from these innovations.”
Since its launch, the programme has reached over 4,800 teachers from 250+ schools across India, with an ambitious goal to empower 20,000 teachers in 600 schools by the end of 2025. With Bhutan now part of its journey, Galaxy Empowered stands as a living example of how technology, when guided by purpose, can uplift not just classrooms, but entire communities.
As the programme continues to grow, it carries with it the dreams of thousands of teachers and millions of students — and a shared hope for a brighter, more inclusive future in education.
