Arya Tsarong Wins United Sherpa Association’s 2025 Golf Tournament

The United Sherpa Association (USA) Inc. successfully hosted its annual Golf Tournament on June 7, 2025, at the scenic Marine Park Golf Course in Brooklyn, New York. The event brought together 48 golfers from across Himalayan communities in the United States, transforming the day into a lively celebration of sportsmanship, cultural unity, and community spirit. Organized to promote healthy lifestyles and strengthen communal bonds, the tournament has become a cherished tradition in the Himalayan American calendar.

“This tournament is not just about golf, it is about bringing people together, celebrating our shared roots, and fostering a healthy lifestyle among community members of all ages,” said Mr. Lhakpa Rinji Sherpa, Chair of the Board of Trustees and lead organizer of the event. His remarks captured the spirit of the occasion, where friendly competition merged with cultural pride and intergenerational connection.

The tournament witnessed outstanding performances from several players. Tenzin Tsarong stood out with a stellar performance, earning both the Longest Drive and Best Gross Score with a score of 77. Jamyang Tashi was recognized for Closest to the Pin, showcasing his precision and skill. In the final standings, Wangyal Tshiring secured third place, while Jamyang Tashi claimed second. The tournament’s top honor went to 12-year-old Arya Tsarong, who clinched first place with an impressive Net Score of 65. Her consistent and focused play demonstrated remarkable maturity and composure.

Arya Tsarong’s victory was more than a personal achievement—it symbolized the emergence of a new generation within the Himalayan community, embracing athletic excellence while remaining connected to their cultural roots. Arya’s golf journey is especially inspiring. She began playing golf at the age of six in Kalimpong, India. After relocating to the United States, she won her first tournament in the U.S. Kids Golf series and qualified for the prestigious U.S. Kids World Championship. At eight, she captured the U.S. Kids New Jersey State Championship. The following year, she triumphed in the Regional Drive, Chip & Putt competition, earning a spot at the national finals at Augusta National Golf Club, home of The Masters.

At age ten, Arya won the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Championship in Virginia. Most recently, at eleven, she was crowned Overall Champion of the Boston Local Tour Championship in the 11–12 age group. Her journey reflects not only her dedication but also the encouragement of her family and the broader Himalayan American community. She stands as a symbol of pride, hope, and potential for future generations.

The awards ceremony took place in the evening at the United Sherpa Association’s community center, where winners and standout players were honored in the presence of community members and guests. Vice President and Sports Coordinator Mr. Pasang Sherpa, General Secretary Mr. Lhakpa Tenji Sherpa, Treasurer Mr. Dorjee Sherpa, and Board Member Mr. Mingamar Sherpa  and Ngawang Jipmpa Sherpa presented trophies and certificates. The atmosphere was festive and warm, filled with shared stories, laughter, and a strong sense of togetherness that defines the mission of the United Sherpa Association.

The annual golf tournament continues to be more than a sporting event, it is a celebration of heritage and community. As the United Sherpa Association remains dedicated to fostering unity, promoting wellness, and preserving Himalayan cultural identity, events like this offer vital opportunities for generations to connect, for youth to shine, and for a vibrant community to thrive far from its ancestral homeland.
