His Holiness Dalai Lama Congratulates Sushila Karki on Appointment as Nepal’s Prime Minister
His Holiness the Dalai Lama has extended his warm congratulations to Sushila Karki on her appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal, highlighting the long-standing ties between the Nepalese and Tibetan peoples. In a letter sent today, the Tibetan spiritual leader expressed his appreciation for Nepal’s continued support to the Tibetan community over the decades.
“As you know, the Nepalese and Tibetan peoples have historically enjoyed a close relationship,” His Holiness wrote. “I am deeply grateful to the government and people of Nepal for providing facilities for the rehabilitation of Tibetan refugees following their forced escape from Tibet after 1959. Indeed, although the Tibetan community in Nepal is relatively small, it has consistently contributed to the country’s economic and social development.”
Reflecting on Nepal’s progress, the Dalai Lama observed, “Over the years, there has been significant development and increasing prosperity in Nepal across various spheres of life. These achievements are particularly meaningful when they lead to tangible improvements in the lives of the poor and marginalized sections of society.”
Concluding his message, His Holiness extended his heartfelt wishes to Prime Minister Karki, stating, “I wish you every success in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Nepal in these challenging times. You have my prayers and good wishes as you take on this important responsibility.”
This letter comes at a time when Nepal faces complex political and economic challenges, making the Dalai Lama’s recognition of the country’s efforts toward development and humanitarian support particularly significant.
