SONOMA, CALIFORNIA:  November 3, 2026 — Across oceans and continents, the bonds of compassion often travel farther than geography allows. In a meaningful expression of solidarity with Nepal, the California Sherpa Association (CSA) has successfully transferred $116,046.66 (NPR 17,038,759.74) to the Nepal Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, bringing to completion a fundraising effort made possible by the generosity of the Sonoma community.

The association confirmed that the entire amount collected, 100 percent of the donations, was transferred to the relief fund on Monday, November 2, 2026.

What began as a collective effort to extend a helping hand to Nepal grew into a shared undertaking that brought together people from different backgrounds, united by a common sense of humanity. From the vineyards of Sonoma to the distant Himalayan homeland of the Sherpa community, the initiative carried a message of compassion beyond borders.

At the heart of the campaign stood the dedication of volunteers and community members who gave their time and energy to turn goodwill into meaningful action. The Himalayan Sherpa Club Sonoma played an important role in organizing and coordinating the fundraising effort, working alongside the California Sherpa Association and members of the wider Sonoma community.

The campaign also received support from local wineries and restaurants, which contributed their time, food, and wine. Their participation reflected the broader involvement of Sonoma’s business community in an effort directed toward people thousands of miles away.

The generosity extended beyond organized events. Individuals contributed through online donations, mailed checks, and in-person participation. Each contribution became part of a larger collective effort, demonstrating how individual acts of kindness can come together to create a substantial impact.

The California Sherpa Association also acknowledged the City of Sonoma, the Sonoma City Council, and Sonoma County for their support and partnership throughout the fundraising campaign.

In expressing its appreciation, the association recognized the volunteers, donors, businesses, and community organizations whose involvement made the initiative possible.

For the Sherpa community, whose cultural and ancestral roots lie in the Himalayan region of Nepal, the campaign carried a significance beyond its financial contribution. It reflected the enduring connection between a motherland and those who have built their lives far from it, while also highlighting the friendships and relationships formed within their adopted communities.

The transfer of more than $116,000 marks the completion of the fundraising effort, but its significance reaches beyond the amount itself. It is a reminder that distance need not diminish responsibility, and that compassion can find expression through the collective actions of ordinary people.

As the funds make their way into Nepal’s relief system, the California Sherpa Association’s initiative leaves behind a story of cooperation between a Himalayan diaspora community and the people of Sonoma.
